Oklahoma teen allegedly killed, stuffed mom in trash bin

LOGAN COUNTY, Okla. (TCN) — A teenage boy has been arrested for first-degree murder in connection with the death of his mother, whose body was found by police in a trash bin.
On Jan. 28, deputies responding to a residence for a welfare check found two teenage boys, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. The homeowner was missing. Officers searched the property and discovered 49-year-old Spring Weems deceased with injuries consistent with homicide.
A neighbor had called 911 to report two boys fighting outside the home, per KFOR. She said police had been there earlier for a welfare check because a woman was missing and that the fight broke out 30 minutes later. When she reportedly went to break up the fight, one of the boys allegedly told her he had killed his mother, according to the outlet.
According to KFOR, Undersheriff Troy Dykes of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office said, “As soon as we arrived, there was a statement made that the body was going to be in a trash can outside of the home.” Weems’ adopted son was arrested on a complaint of first-degree murder and taken into custody at the Canadian County Juvenile Center. Authorities have not released his name and age.
According to News 9, Weems was a single mother. KOCO reports a motive has not yet been discovered. According to the OSBI, the Office of the Medical Examiner has yet to determine the cause and manner of Weems’ death.
The investigation is ongoing.
