The Kansas City Chiefs have pulled off a blockbuster trade ahead of free agency, as they have pulled off a blockbuster deal with the Los Angeles Rams.
With the deal taking place and the Chiefs sending one of their best players to Los Angeles, this prompted a one-word response from quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Trades are a mainstay in sports, but it does not make them easier for players who formulate strong relationships. Mahomes just lost a strong player, one who has been with him over the past four seasons.
The Chiefs have sent All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie to the Rams for a huge package that includes the No. 29 overall pick, a fifth-round pick, a sixth-round pick, and a 2027 third-round pick.
Los Angeles was in desperate need of a lockdown corner, and they have that in McDuffie, who is only 25 years old and has a ton of football left.
With McDuffie being sent to the Rams, Mahomes took to social media to offer one word on losing one of his own.
Mahomes simply put “Damn..”
The response is clearly one that holds a lot of weight. McDuffie was named an All-Pro twice with the Chiefs and was named a Super Bowl champion twice. Now, he joins a Rams team that may also compete for a Super Bowl in 2026.
The good news for the Chiefs and Mahomes is they still have the likes of Jaylen Watson on the team, and adding an additional first-round pick can help the team draft a bigger talent in the secondary or in other places.
Kansas City now has the No. 9 overall and No. 29 overall picks in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. They can use both picks to land potential day-one starters.
McDuffie also goes from a former contender to a current contender and has a chance to round out a defense that is already very strong.
This trade will certainly cause shockwaves in plans for free agency for the Rams, Chiefs, and the other 30 teams. There could be more blockbuster trades incoming, but Los Angeles and Kansas City are the first two teams to engage in a deal ahead of free agency.
