Michigan man gets up to 80 years in prison for killing DoorDash driver

FERNDALE, Mich. (TCN) — A man has been sentenced to a maximum of 80 years in prison for the murder of a DoorDash driver who was delivering an order from White Castle in a suburb just south of Detroit.
On March 9, 2025, police received a call for shots fired, WDIV reports. A few minutes later, they received another call reporting a man collapsed outside his car on a bridge. Responding officers found 26-year-old Mamadou Diallo shot in the chest. He was a DoorDash driver who had just picked up an order from White Castle and was on his way to deliver it. Diallo was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to police, just before the shooting, a speeding GMC truck changed lanes quickly and hit Diallo’s Ford Escape, WDIV reports. The truck then allegedly slowed down to give Diallo time to catch up. Police say six shots were then fired into Diallo’s car.
Law & Crime reports a one-month investigation led to the arrest of the GMC’s driver, Terrell Simms, 39. Two others were arrested and then released.
Simms was charged with second-degree murder, carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, and two counts of felony firearm, WDIV reports.
In a statement released at the time of Simms’ arrest, Ferndale Police Chief Dennis Emmi said, “This was a senseless act of violence that took the life of an innocent man who was simply working to make ends meet.” CBS News reports Diallo was from Senegal and had moved to Michigan in 2023.
At trial in October 2025, Simms was found guilty on all counts and was sentenced on Jan. 27 to between 37.5 and 80 years in prison, WDIV reports.
