Grumpy ‘Antisocial’ Dog’s Relationship With Owner’s Boyfriend Melts Hearts
A short, quiet moment between a dog and his human has captured widespread attention online, turning an everyday scene into a viral hit.
The video centers on a pup known for being grumpy and anti-social, a description that sets the tone for the unexpectedly tender relationship shown on screen. Rather than jumping up for attention or demanding affection, the dog does the opposite.
He calmly follows his dad from room to room, staying close without getting in the way. In each moment, he stands quietly beside him, clearly hoping for pets but seemingly too proud and reserved to ask outright.
That restrained longing is what has resonated so strongly with viewers. The clip doesn’t rely on big reactions or dramatic gestures. Instead, it captures subtle body language and unspoken connection.

Dogs may not experience love exactly as humans do, but scientific evidence suggests they form strong emotional bonds with people.
Pet MD explains that interactions such as eye contact, petting, and talking trigger oxytocin—the “love hormone”—and dopamine, reinforcing positive feelings and attachment.
Because dogs can’t express emotions verbally, they show affection through behavior. Common signs include wagging their tail—especially excited, full-body wagging—when they see you, maintaining soft eye contact, and greeting you enthusiastically after you have been away.
Other behaviors also signal love and trust. Dogs may lick you as a bonding gesture rooted in puppyhood, bring you their favorite toys to invite interaction, or follow you around as a sign of attachment. They might raise their eyebrows or make expressive faces to communicate affection.
Sleeping near you is another key sign, as it shows they feel safe and secure. Overall, canines express love through body language, closeness, and a desire to interact and bond with you.
The heart-melting interaction was shared on Instagram on April 7 under the username @dogedaysny and has since drawn in more than 1 million views and over 73,000 likes.
Newsweek reached out to @dogedaysny for comment via email. We could not verify the details of the case.
One user, Victoria.walshx, commented: “Aw he found his bestie and doesn’t wanna be grumpy.”
Jubielska said: “The staring at him when he’s at the top of the stairs.”
Goldylcks added: “To be fair, all shibas are quite grumpy and anti-social.”
